The world is crawling with things that go bump in the night - most people just aren’t aware of it. They live out their lives blissfully ignorant of the supernatural society, denying the obvious when they see it. That is where the Watches - the Others - come in.
The Others
The Others… once human, now something more. They are the ones who are more than just human - vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, and gifted people - people who can call on supernatural powers. Their power comes from the “Twilight” - a separate realm which Others can enter. All are born Other, but shapeshifters and the gifted don’t realize what they are until later in life.
After entering the Twilight for the first time, an Other’s powers start to grow. This is when most come to the attention of the Watches. .. and when the clock starts ticking. If an Other doesn’t choose a Watch and start training within about a month, their powers will consume them and kill them.
The Watches
The Day Watch - they are the supernatural police. They make sure no one gets out of hand, and keep tabs on any regular humans who come into contact with the supernatural world. In general, they use their abilities to do good.
The Night Watch - they stand against all that the Day Watch is for. Unrestrained hunting and feeding on regular humans, general mischief and mayhem. They don’t care if humans come to realize the vamps, weres, and other beings of stories are real. In general, they use their powers for chaos and evildoing.
The Present
On the surface, a delicate balance of power has formed between the Day and Night Watches. On the inside, both Watches are riddled with secrets. New agents are brought into the Watches all the time, and are rigorously trained before being given any serious assignments. Every week, more agents are killed by the opposing Watch. There’s more to the Watches than most know, but only the top leaders and those they trust know what’s going on behind-the-scenes.
