Michael and Desiree meet when she first moves to the town and they both were shy about their feelings towards one another. But when they start hanging out more their feelings become more intense and soon become very close. But when Marcus comes to visit Michael he doesn't like the fact that his brother has found someone he can be happy with but he doesn't have anyone like that. So being a vampire Marcus tries to break them apart and Desiree gets confused because of it.
